How do these Alphabet Partner Decodables work? Grab a partner and a decodable story mat! Each partner will take turns reading half of the story. An optional alphabet worksheet is included for after reading.
Students will point to each sentence and read the sounds and pictures – /a/, /a/, apple.
This teaches students:
- Text represents spoken sounds
- Letters and letter sounds
- Alphabet-related vocabulary
- Concepts of print

2 versions of these alphabet partner decodable readers are included! This makes differentiation easy.
- Version one: The vocabulary is the same on both sides of the mat.
- Version two: The vocabulary is different on either side of the mat.
Optional alphabet worksheets are included. Students will:
- Identify the pictures that begin with the letter sound and color them.
- Trace the uppercase and lowercase letters.
- Practice writing the letters on the lines.

How are these decodable stories different than other decodable books? This format is very unique, but I believe needed! The Alphabet Partner Decodable Readers allow your students to practice letter sounds and concepts of print with the support of a partner. Each partner will read half of the story.
Is a black and white version included? Yes, both a color and black and white version of these partner alphabet decodables is included.
How can I organize these partner decodables? An easy way to create a partner decodable readers center is to put together a folder. The decodable story mats can go on one side (or in page protectors), and the recording sheets on the other. Another option is to get a hanging file folder box. Have one hanging folder for each skill set of decodable story mats.
