This unit [Unit 3] contains CVC word decodable readers. These decodable books focus on each short vowel and scaffold upon prior learning – the short a books will only contain vowel a, but the short u books can contain all of the short vowels.
Students not quite ready for these? I suggest checking out Unit 2: Beginning Readers.
26 decodable readers are included -24 fiction books and 2 nonfiction books.
Differentiation: Each book has two version – decodable books with pictures and decodable books without pictures. For the version without pictures, students will read the decodable reader and then sequence and glue the story pictures in.
Each book has a two-day lesson plan included. You can shorten these if desired.
Each 2-day lesson in this unit includes:
- Sight Word Mapping
- Phonics Lesson/Review
- Blending Practice
- Story Retelling or Comprehension Questions
- Encoding Practice
- Guided Writing
This unit includes:
- Reading Strategy Posters
- Sound Boxes
- High Frequency Word Mapping
- 26 Decodable Readers
- Decodable Passages for Each Book
