Subtraction Unit: Kindergarten Guided Math

Are your students ready to tackle and explore subtraction? Everything you need to teach an engaging guided math unit is included here! Students will learn to subtract using multiple strategies including acting it out, using manipulatives, fingers, pictures, and number lines and will learn to solve subtraction word problems.

These units were developed to be taught whole group but would also work well in a small group setting. The teacher will be guided the students in an I do, We do, You do model.

There are 8 lessons included, however, lesson 8 may be stretch across multiple days as you practice story problems. I have included enough story problems for this to be possible.

Each lesson includes a full lesson plan with:

• Anchor Charts
• Warm Up – engaging whole body counting and number sense activities
• Whole Group Activity – Each lesson includes a teacher-directed mini-lesson.
• Game or Activity – Students will practice the concepts with a hands-on activity.
• Independent Follow Up – Students will apply what they learned whole group to an independent paper activity.
• Home Extension – Students can practice even more at home with a short practice page.
• Differentiation – Each lesson includes options for below level/intervention and enrichment.
• End of Unit Assessment
