One question I’ve gotten over and over again about my calm down corner is, “What do I do if I have limited space?” I completely understand that question because for years that was me! I’m going to show you how you can create a calm down kit that takes little to no space!
{You can read about how I introduce and use our calm down kit here.}
Create a Book
The easiest way to save space is to bind your calm down kit into a book:
You can still laminate the pages and use hook and loop fastener to attach your breathing and calm down choices:
Make a Calm Down Bag
For this option, you will still bind your calm down steps into a book, but adding a tote bag makes it easier to take on the go or add different calming options:
You can keep calming items in a pencil box to keep them from getting lost. Books are also a great item to add to your bags. Find a list of my calm down place books here.
Personal Calm Down Books
These personal calm down books are a new addition to my calm down kit. These are perfect for individual students who may need the calm corner often. Then, you can also let every student keep one in their book boxes!
These paper books follow the same calm down strategy steps as my Calm Down Corner, but they also allow for personalization, like adding pictures of things a child loves or their family:
