In this blog post: Grab these free first day of school crowns to celebrate all of the learning you’ve done!
As much as the beginning of the school year can make me feel like a chicken running around with its head cut off, there is just something about the first day of school in Kindergarten.
Seeing those 25 little faces coming in excited for this new adventure and ready to learn just gets me. As soon as I see how excited they are to be there, I officially feel ready for the new school year!
Now, if you’ve taught Kindergarten before, you know… that first day of school is BUSY!
Everybody is brand new, we’re feeling all the emotions, and everything – EVERYTHING – is a learning experience.
It’s no wonder we go home and crash!
That first day is jam-packed with learning, so why not celebrate all that we’ve accomplished with these free first day of school crowns?
Making the Crowns
On the first day of school, scissors and glue are often brand new tools for us. We need lots of practice, and what better way than making first day of school crowns?
I tried to make these first day of school crowns as simple to cut as possible for little fingers (but if you want to have them pre-cut, that’s totally fine!).
First, just print the crowns on colored paper or on white paper and let students color them.
To make the crowns, students will just glue the crown piece to a sentence strip.
I’ve found that using sentence strips to make crowns is 10000x easier than cutting out a back piece to attach – that often gets cut up and mangled anyway.
Once the crown is glued on, you can measure the sentence strip around each student’s head and then staple (I do suggest stapling outward so that the staple ends aren’t scratchy on their head).

First Week of Kindergarten Plans
Are you new to Kindergarten and wondering what to plan for that first week of school (or a veteran teacher just looking for more ideas)? I’ve already planned out the ENTIRE first week of school for you!
The first week of Kindergarten is one of my favorite times of the year, but it can also get a little chaotic.
You need to teach them how to do every little thing – from how to use school supplies to how to walk in the hallway. And of course fit academic things like reading and writing and math.
Like I said, chaotic!
But it doesn’t have to be. I’ve pulled together my entire first week of school plans for you. These first week of kindergarten plans have been classroom-tested and kid approved for a successful first week!
What do you get?
I give you 5 full days of scripted lesson plans and you can follow them as closely, or as loosely, as you want.
The lesson plans will take you from arrival to dismissal and plan out your entire day for a successful first week of Kindergarten!
Students will learn how to use school supplies as they become Kindergarten Experts.
After you introduce each school supply and how to use it, students will get to practice with the school supply practice worksheets.
By practicing now, you’re setting yourself up for an even better year (and less glue sticks eaten or worn as chapstick).
Students will also learn how to become Hallway Ninjas to walk stealthily through the halls! (A Hallway Experts alternative is also included if you prefer that). This has been my biggest secret to having one of the quietest classes in the hall all year long!
Lessons on happy and sad choices in the classroom are also included. These social studies lessons will help you discuss expected classroom behaviors with your students, and then they can be used to review and come back to all year long.
Plus, it comes with a variety of extras to set you up for success including:
- How Do We Get Home Display
- How Do We Get Home Transportation Printable Labels
- EDITABLE Meet the Teacher Letter
- Meet the Teacher Slideshow
- Back to School Dough Gift Tags for Students
- Take Home Folder Covers
- Supply Labels for Supply Drop Off
- Optional Line Up and Transition Routine with Visuals
- Extra back to school worksheets and printables
ready for a successful first week of kindergarten?
If you want to plan a first week of kindergarten that will set you up for success for the rest of the year, let me take that off your plate. Everything you need for setting up the BEST year ever is ready to print and go at your fingertips!
