February is such a busy month in Kindergarten. From Groundhog Day to the 100th Day to Valentine’s day, the fun never stops! Personally, I like to embrace the holiday chaos and use it to increase engagement in our everyday subjects.
We love to make Valentine’s Day cards for our family and friends! These free Valentine’s Day activities will take this fun activity and make it academic. Your students will have so much fun, they won’t even know that they are learning!
How To Make a Valentine’s Day Card Sequencing and Writing
We begin by sequencing the steps for how to make a Valentine’s Day card together as a class. I glue them on an anchor chart and draw lines for the steps.
Then, my students help write the steps for this interactive writing activity.
We keep the steps simple and, remember, phonetic writing is encouraged!
If you want all of your students involved in this interactive writing activity, you can have them stretch out the words on white boards as one student writes on the anchor chart.
Valentine’s Day Writing Activity for Kindergarten
After we write the steps for how to make a Valentine card together, my students get to complete the writing on their own. This is a great way to make procedural how to writing meaningful!
There are two levels of this Valentine’s Day writing activity included. One has the pictures already sequenced for students. For the other version, students will draw and write the steps in sequential order.
These Valentine’s Day writing activities are perfect for Kindergarten or 1st grade. They are an easy way to add rigor to your Valentine’s Day celebrations.
Free Valentine’s Day Emergent Reader
After writing, you can extend this lesson into literacy with this free Valentine’s Day emergent reader!
This Making Valentine Cards emergent reader will take students through the steps of making Valentine’s Day cards.
You can have students find and highlight sight words, circle phonics patterns you are learning, and then read to a friend for fluency practice.
