In this blog post: It is officially our HOPPING Into Spring celebration week! Check out this blog post each day to download new and free spring teaching resources.
It is officially the first week of spring (although you wouldn’t be able to tell it by the snow we’re getting in Michigan!). That means that it is time for our HOPPING Into Spring celebration!
What does that mean? Basically, this is a time to get you ready and excited for spring in the classroom. I know many of you are on Spring Break or you will be soon, and after that the finish line is in sight! This week will be packed full of sales, steals, giveaways, and of course, daily FREEBIES!
You can find all of the fun in our free teacher Facebook group.
Each day this week, I will have a brand new spring teaching resource for you to download right here! I’m trying to include a little something for everybody, so the freebies will range from preschool – 2nd grade skills.
Let’s HOP into it!
Freebie Day 1: Spring Dab by Code
Today is all about math! I know that this is the time of year when we are hitting addition and subtraction hard and trying to fit in all of the practice we can. These no prep Spring Addition Dab worksheets are perfect for that!
Students will create a color code on the flowers. Then, they will solve and dab the problems with the correct color.
Don’t have bingo daubers? No problem! Just use crayons or markers and have students color by code.
You can also make this a reusable spring math center by laminating and have students use colored manipulatives to cover the problems.
This set of spring math worksheets includes addition to 5, addition to 10, and addition to 20, so you can easily differentiate your math practice.
Freebie day 2: Spring decodable passages
Today is all about decodables! If you know me, you know that I have absolutely fallen in love with decodables the last few years. I love the confidence that they give my students when they can actually READ them!
But one thing I missed when switching from leveled texts to decodables was seasonal and thematic stories. I heard time and again that that just wasn’t possible with decodable texts.
Well, you know I can’t back down from a challenge. 😉
Today’s freebie is a set of Spring Decodable Passages!
This set includes 13 spring-themed decodable stories that cover:
- CVC words
- Digraphs
- Beginning blends
- CVCe words
- R-controlled vowels
- Vowel teams
They also have two formatting options included:
Read and Comprehend: Students will read the decodable passages and then answer the comprehension questions. These questions focus on story elements!
Read and Visualize: Students will read the decodable passage three times. Then they will illustrate the story!

Freebie Day 3: Nonfiction Partner Decodables
You know how it seems you always have your best ideas right when you’re about to fall asleep? This was one of those ideas and it kept me up until I made it happen!
I knew that partner decodable readers didn’t exist anywhere else… but they should! What’s more engaging than reading with a friend?
SO, I made it happen. The new Partner Decodable Readers are super unique in that each partner will read half of the story. This means that each partner gets to practice both decoding and comprehension with partner support!
These partner decodable readers can be used for:
- Buddy reading
- A classroom library option
- Shared reading as a class
- Send home for parents to use as an “I read, you read” option
And today, I have a NONFICTION set of partner decodables as a freebie for you! This set includes 5 nonfiction CVC word decodable readers.
Students can grab a partner and read about the animal on their decodable story mat. Then, they can retell the story on the recording sheet.
Love these? Be sure to grab the new Partner Decodable Readers bundle at a super discount this week!
Freebie Day 4: Spring Word Building Mats
Today is all about phonics! I know that everyone is in a different place when it comes to phonics, but I wanted this freebie to be able to be used by everyone. So these spring word building mats cover all of the same skills my Science of Reading Guided Curriculum
You will find mats for:
- Alphabet
- CVC words
- Digraphs
- Beginning blends
- CVCe words
- Ending blends
- R-controlled words
- Vowel teams
- Diphthongs
For the alphabet mats, students will use playdough or other small manipulatives to build the letter. Then, they will find it and cover it.
For the phonics mats, students will say the word and tap the sounds on the flowers. Then, they will build the word, write the word, and find and cover the word.
Freebie Day 5: High Frequency Word Highlight It Sheets
Today is all about literacy! We will take all of the heart words and high frequency words practice we can get, am I right? I am always looking for new and fun ways for my students to practice and these Highlight It sheets are perfect.
For these sheets, students will rainbow write or color the high frequency word.
Then, they will search for and highlight the word at the bottom.
Be sure to stop back in tomorrow for the next day of freebies!
