The thing about Kindergarten is that they shouldn’t know what Thanksgiving break is yet. They’ve never experienced it, so they should know that it’s coming up, right? They should be completely unaffected by the “Week Before Break Crazies.”
And yet.
And yet I seriously had to say, “We don’t somersault while reading books in the library,” this week. Because we have lost our dang minds.
Maybe this is your class too. Maybe you’re one of the lucky ones and your class is full of angels this week. Either way, this Thanksgiving writing activity is for you.
Since we are losing our dang minds, I decided this would be the perfect time to focus on thankfulness. I know that’s a common theme this time of year, but I thought it was the perfect way to re-center us and bring my blood pressure back down.
For this activity, students will write about something or someone they are thankful for and why. Then they will illustrate it. You could easily make this into a Thanksgiving place mat by mounting it on construction paper and laminating it!
