If you are like me, you are constantly looking for new and engaging ways to practice spelling names throughout the year. After all, you can only do those name tracing worksheets so many times. That’s why I decided to start doing monthly name crafts!
It’s scientifically proven that crafts increase engagement by 800% (OK, that’s a lie, but we love a good craft). Students love seeing their name on their craft and we use these to build community by personalizing our classroom displays year-round, even after we are solid in our name recognition.
We make this school bus name craft the first week of school! The cutting is simple enough for the beginning of the year. I am going to have a bulletin board in our classroom library dedicated to displaying these crafts all year!
Did I mention the best part about these crafts? They’re editable! You just type in the letters of students’ names and then type their names and print. If you don’t want to type them, you can write them by hand or have students write them!
I often get asked, “When do you find time to do crafts? Everything we do has to be academic and meet the standards.” Just because you’re making a craft does not mean that you aren’t meeting a whole bunch of standards! You’re just making it more FUN!
After all, you’re practicing listening and following directions, fine motor skills, sight words (I consider names a sight word).
Since i’m still working on creating these crafts for the entire year, they’re available in a growing bundle at a huge discount! You can grab that here before the price goes up and you’ll get all the future crafts for free!
And of course I have a freebie for you! It seems to be becoming a theme with my freebies that they are dinosaur-centered. I don’t know why, but I do love dinos!
For this craft, students will get to build their names in the dinosaur’s mouth! How fun is that for a dinosaur week?
