Wondering how to teach guided reading with alphabet books for beginning readers in your pre-K or Kindergarten classroom? This is it! This unit aligns with research from the science of reading and uses research-based practices to make guided reading fun and effective!

This unit [Unit 1] contains alphabet decodable readers for introducing and teaching letters and letter sounds. These alphabet books use a multi-sensory approach to teach letters and letter sounds.

Two options are now included for these alphabet books:

Option one: Each page features the letter and a word {M, m, monkey}. Students will point and say the sound, sound, and word.

Option two: Each page features the letter twice and the sounds [M, m, /m/]. Students will point and say the letter, letter, and sound.

Then, students will complete a letter fluency activity where they will trace the letter with their finger while saying the name and sound and then pointing and naming each picture.

Can I teach the letters out of this order? Yes! You can teach these lesson out of order with minimal changes; just swap out the letter sound you review with the one you previously learned.
