How do the Gingerbread Man decodable plays work? Just choose the play that best fits your group. Students will grab some friends and put on a play! The scripts are written to be completely decodable following my phonics scope and sequence.

These decodable partner plays are 100% aligned with the Science of Reading SOR! You will only see the phonics skills previously taught and very limited high frequency words. Some rebus pictures are used in earlier levels to allow for richer stories. The text is not patterned at all.
These decodables will follow the same scope and sequence as my Science of Reading Guided Curriculum.
How can I use these Decodable Partner Plays in my classroom?
- Partner literacy centers: Once taught the routine, this can easily become an independent partner literacy center in your classroom.
- Individual option: Puppets are included so students have the option of reading and performing each play on their own.
- Small groups: Use the partner plays as an alternative to decodable readers.
- Dramatic play: An optional Decodable Theater set up is included to help you create a meaningful and educational dramatic play theater.
- Classroom performances: Create a family performance night or just put on play performances for your own class!
About the plays:
Each play script is 3 pages long and can be printed front and back if desired. While my partner plays usually have 2 characters, this set has 6 characters to stay true to the ordinal story. They contain the characters at the top and character icons with highlighting to help students keep their place. Optional character hats, name tags, or puppets are included to help students act out the story.
About the extras:
Mini decodable books are included of each story. These books include the character dialogue. Students can use these mini decodable readers to follow along with the partner plays, or to take home and read to their families.
