In this blog post: Are you looking for a fun and creative Halloween activity for your classroom this year? Grab these free Design a Ghost Costume activities that your students are sure to love!
If you have taught Kindergarten in October, you know that there is little that our students are obsessed with quite like Halloween.
From October 1st, whenever I ask students what month it is, the answer is always Halloween!
As you can imagine, this can make for a looong month.
I’ve found the best way to handle the Halloween fever is to just lean into the chaos a little bit. And from that chaos, these free design a ghost costume activities were born!
Design a Ghost Costume
I like to be very intentional choosing fun Halloween-themed classroom activities that still keep the learning going. These Ghost Costume activities are the best of both worlds!
I designed these activities last year as a last minute activity and just never got around to blogging about them until today. But even if it’s the last minute, hopefully you can still use these fun Halloween activities in your classroom this year!
First, we start with the Ghost Costumes emergent reader. Every little ghost in this reader was hand-drawn by me, which was so much fun!
I would read this book to students and possibly display it for shared reading. Students can find and circle or highlight high frequency words in the reader. They can also find the beginning sounds if you want.
After reading, students get to design their own costume for their little ghost!
By having students stretch out the word for their costume and use phonetic spelling, you add in some great writing practice as well.
How cute would these little ghosts be on display?
Silly Pumpkin Costumes
Of course, I know not everyone can celebrate Halloween in the classroom. That’s why I have also added in an option to design “silly pumpkin costumes.”
These do not say “Halloween” anywhere, so you can use these as a fall alternative to the spooky ghosts.
